When Sisse met Viggo
|
Viggo was in Copenhagen on March the 13th, promoting Hidalgo, and the newspapers didnīt tell anything - that is: no details about his visit. I tried emailing a journalist who wrote about his visit, and believe it or not, she told me everything about where and when (a woman of course!! she understood!!).
My friend and I went to Copenhagen (1 hour drive), and waited in the lobby at Hotel dīAngleterre (most expensive hotel in Denmark). We waited for 5 hours - we even had a quite expensive lunch - and we were lucky again: the waiter was very friendly and we chatted with him for a while - then we told him why we were there, and he asked us to wait a minute. He disappeared for a few minutes, then returned and told us that Viggo and the journalists/photographers would come down in half an hour to have lunch right there in his restaurant! He then showed us over to two chairs where we could sit and wait, just outside the restaurant - he said it was alright to sit there, even though it was a room only for the guests staying in the hotel. Bless his heart!!! I will never forget his kindness! We waited for half an hour more, our hearts beginning to beat very fast, knowing that very soon the door would open, and........ We had put on our finest clothes - my friend held a big bunch of roses we bought for Viggo - and I was holding his poems in my hand, ready to hand it over for an autograph. The door opened and the waiter came back, now telling us that Viggo would NOT come down to have lunch, since he was too tired from giving all the interviews, jet lag etc... WHAT a disappointment! We were so close! Then the kind waiter told us to leave the flowers in the reception, and he would make sure that they were send up to Viggos room. Okay - what could we do? I can still picture us, very very disappointed, going out into the reception - as we walk through the big doors HE IS STANDING RIGHT THERE talking to another man!!!! I think my brain crashed at that moment - I forgot to think, to breathe. I couldnīt even look at my friend, to see if she had noticed! Of course she had - she was just as paralyzed as I was! The two men stopped talking, looked at us - we must have looked real funny, standing there with our mouths open! Viggo actually turned to us - and I donīt know how, but I managed to speak, and said to him (in Danish): "Sorry, do you have time for an autograph?" "Of course", he said, "no problem". He asked me what my name was and wrote in my book: "To Sisse" - Then the usual heart he always uses in his autograph, and of course his name. He turned to my friend, probably expecting her to be asking for the same thing, but was a little surprised (I think) to see her smile and just hand him the flowers, saying: "these are for you!". He actually looked as a person who never gets flowers (this can not be true!), and thanked us a lot. Both of us shook hands with him (oh, heaven) and I managed to say something about Lord of the Rings, and how incredible it had been to watch the movies. He was just very very polite and said "thank you" a lot of times. Then we stepped back, said Hi , he said Hi, and we were standing on the pavement in front of the hotel, still in shock. Then we gave each other a big hug, screamed out very loud, so that everybody was looking at us, we ran back to our car - the rain was pouring down - and all the way home we were grinning like idiots! What a day! And what a man! Lynn, he was SO handsome! But he looked real tired. His hair was rather short, and he was wearing a green suit. I never managed to look at his feet, to see if he was barefoot! He spoke Danish fluently, and as always his voice sends shivers down your spine! This was one of the biggest moments in my life, and I know I sound like a teenager, but this man amaze me so! I am 39 years old, divorced (happily), and I have 2 chlidren, aged 12 and 14. Viggo is the loveliest man I have ever seen, and it will be difficult for anybody to compare to him! I love his films, his poetry, his paintings, his body and soul, AND his voice! |
